As larger TVs come down in price, you may be tempted to wallpaper your loungeroom wall with a little digital pixel magic. Before jumping at the latest deal, consider the the location of your tv and seating.
For regular 4:3 televisions, a viewing distance of 3 to 6 times the width of the screen is recommended. With 16:9 screens, viewers can be between 1.5 to 3 times the screen size.
Viewing angles refer to how far ‘side to side' and ‘up and down' that a TV screen can reasonably be viewed. LCD screens were originally designed as computer screens and had viewing angles as little as 40°. This has been addressed in top brand LCD screens. Current LCD and Plasma TVs have viewing angles as wide as 175°.
While your budget may stretch to a 60 inch flat panel television, bigger is not always better as you consider whether a television will fit into your room and provide comfortable viewing from all seating.
